After months of silence, I’m finally posting again! It would be terrible to miss posting about our 1 year anniversary of living in the Philippines! It’s been a busy year, and it’s impossible to truly convey what it’s been like. Nevertheless, here are a few highlights from the past several months.
A fun night of swimming, soccer, and dinner with the Ibe family. Pictured above are MJ, Gabe, and LJ.
Classis met while the PRCA contact committee was out – Mr. Dave Kregel and Rev Richard Smit.
My grandma, mom, and sister visited in November! Phyllis King, Cheryl Regnerus, and Carly Regnerus stayed with us for 2 weeks. We had a wonderful time with them!
Another visitor! Rev’s good friend, Nate Pastoor visited us over a weekend. He was in China for work, so he was able to make it over for a quick visit. We had fun showing him a little glimpse of our life here!
And then we had more family in December! Rev’s parents, Jim and Kathi Holstege stayed with us for 2 weeks also. It was so nice seeing them again!
And last, but not least, our third missionary arrived! Rev and Tricia Smit and family! They moved into our old house, which was actually their old house, from their time here a few years ago. Our 3 families did a bit of a house swap – Kleyns found a new place just around the corner, and we moved into their old house. We decided this worked best for everybody since the Smits have a large family and that house can better accommodate them. So, we moved twice in one year! But, so far, the “new” place is working out great.
Here are a few random “fun facts” about our first year:
🇵🇭 12 visitors stayed with us. That does not include other visitors who stayed with Kleyns or at other lodgings.
🇵🇭 4 trips to the hospital/med center, plus multiple routine checkups.
🇵🇭 95 days of school finished for Gabe.
🇵🇭 9 months of Tagalog classes.
🇵🇭 1 new puppy.
🇵🇭 53 Sundays spent with God’s saints in the Philippines.
It’s been a big year. So much happened and changed in our lives, yet we always feel God’s hand guiding us. Even though we are far from family and friends, and in a culture different from our own, we feel like this is “home” now. The work here is so rewarding, and we feel blessed to be a part of it! Please pray that God will continue to direct and bless us in our lifeand work here.
